DESCRIPTION:Aphasia is caused by damage to the language-dominant side of the brain\, usually the left side\, and may be brought on by stroke\, head injury or a brain tumor. Our online Aphasia Support Group brings together brain tumor patients who are struggling with aphasia. Erica Johns Freestone\, SLP\, from Emory John’s Creek Rehab department facilitates this meeting. \nThe support group meets virtually using the Zoom platform. This allows participants not in the Atlanta area and those who do not feel comfortable in a face-to-face group setting to still have access to the support group. \nThe Southeastern Brain Tumor Foundation hosted online aphasia support group meets bi-weekly via Zoom at 12:30 – 1:30 pm ET on Thursdays. But brain injuries resulting in aphasia may also arise from head trauma\, from brain tumors\, or from infections. \nAphasia can be so severe as to make communication with the patient almost impossible\, or it can be very mild. It may affect mainly a single aspect of language use\, such as the ability to retrieve the names of objects\, or the ability to put words together into sentences\, or the ability to read. More commonly\, however\, multiple aspects of communication are impaired\, while some channels remain accessible for a limited exchange of information. \n

SUMMARY:Young Adult Survivor Support Group
DESCRIPTION:The Young Adult Survivor support group meeting provides the young adult brain tumor patient an opportunity to meet other young adult brain tumor survivors\, discuss or share experiences\, and ask questions about treatment plans or effects of treatment on your physical & emotional health. Young adults include those over eighteen but under twenty-five years of age. The Southeastern Brain Tumor Foundation does not currently offer a support group for those under the age of eighteen due to HIPA concerns. \nThis support group meeting occurs the second Tuesday of each month from 7:00p-8:30p ET.  Meetings are being held virtually via the Zoom platform until further notice. DESCRIPTION:The Young Adult Survivor support group meeting provides the young adult brain tumor patient an opportunity to meet other young adult brain tumor survivors\, discuss or share experiences\, and ask questions about treatment plans or effects of treatment on your physical & emotional health. Young adults include those over eighteen but under twenty-five years of age. The Southeastern Brain Tumor Foundation does not currently offer a support group for those under the age of eighteen due to HIPA concerns. \nThis support group meeting occurs the second Tuesday of each month from 7:00p-8:30p ET.  Meetings are being held virtually via the Zoom platform until further notice. Occasionally\, the group meets at the St. Joseph’s campus of Emory Healthcare in Atlanta\, Georgia. The online format allows participants not in the Atlanta area and those who do not feel comfortable in a group setting to still have access to the support group. \nMeetings are held every other Thursday from 12:30 – 2:00 pm ET. The meetings are open to patients and their caregivers. Some meetings include a guest speaker on topic relevant to the brain tumor community. SUMMARY:Young Adult Survivor Support Group
DESCRIPTION:The Young Adult Survivor support group meeting provides the young adult brain tumor patient an opportunity to meet other young adult brain tumor survivors\, discuss or share experiences\, and ask questions about treatment plans or effects of treatment on your physical & emotional health. Young adults include those over eighteen but under twenty-five years of age. The Southeastern Brain Tumor Foundation does not currently offer a support group for those under the age of eighteen due to HIPA concerns. \nThis support group meeting occurs the second Tuesday of each month from 7:00p-8:30p ET.  Meetings are being held virtually via the Zoom platform until further notice. SUMMARY:Giving Tuesday
DESCRIPTION:Giving Tuesday 2023\, a global day of generosity and kindness\, is November 28\, 2023. Funds raised on the day of kindness will support the brain tumor patient initiative which offers acts of kindness such as grocery delivery\, meal options and transportation assistance to those currently undergoing treatment for a primary brain tumor. The Foundation partners with local treatment facilities to lighten the load for patients as a simple act of kindness as they face brain cancer or a brain tumor. \nGiving Tuesday occurs annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving each year following Cyber Monday and Black Friday. \nYou can financially support this initiative on our Donate Page and select Giving Tuesday  (be sure to check to see if your employer matches gifts!) or you can set up a personal fundraiser on Facebook\, add a donation sticker to an Instagram story\, or use our “Fundraise Your Way” feature to create a personal fundraiser such as a bake sale\, car wash or anything else to benefit the Southeastern Brain Tumor Foundation on Giving Tuesday 2023! \nIn addition\, you can help spread awareness by posting why you support the SBTF on social media and sharing the Foundation’s social posts that day. Or\, you could choose a special gift from our Amazon Wish List and brighten\, as well as lighten\, someone’s day.
