Caroline Garcia & Brittany Lawton join the SBTF Board of Directors
The Southeastern Brain Tumor Foundation invited two new advocates to join its Board of Directors during the June meeting.
Caroline was introduced to the Southeastern Brain Tumor Association in September of 2022, just weeks after her husband Kyle’s diagnosis of an astrocytoma. Her community of friends and family rallied around them to form #TeamKG for that September’s Race for Research, and Caroline has remained plugged into the SBTF ever since. Caroline is passionate about supporting other spouses as they navigate their Brain Tumor journeys, and remains hopeful and grateful for the variety of treatments Kyle has received in Atlanta and beyond. Caroline and Kyle have two young boys, Max and Oliver, and Caroline has worked at Chick-fil-A, Inc. since 2018 where she focuses on Leadership Strategy and Innovation. She is a graduate of Washington & Lee University with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and a Minor in Poverty and Human Capability.
Brittany Lawton, LMSW, is the first social worker to be hired at the Piedmont Brain Tumor Center and first became involved with Southeastern Brain Tumor Foundation in 2020 helping facilitate two of SBTF’s support groups. Brittany works alongside fellow board member, Dr. Erin Dunbar, with patients with brain tumors, both primary and metastatic. Her initial start in Oncology was working inpatient at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital with patients undergoing treatment. Brittany was able to work closely with patients and their families through their cancer journey. Brittany transferred to her role at the Piedmont Brain Tumor Center in October 2020 providing psychosocial support, community and financial resources and empowering patients and families during their treatment process. Brittany continues to facilitate support groups with Geri, SBTF’s Patient Advocate, where you may sometimes see guest appearances in the background by her two cats, Chippy and Dexter.
