Southeastern Brain Tumor Foundation Celebrates 30 Years of Hope, Healing, and Progress
ATLANTA, GA – June 18, 2025 – The Southeastern Brain Tumor Foundation (SBTF) proudly announces its 30th anniversary, marking three decades of unwavering commitment to supporting brain tumor patients, funding vital research, providing patient care, and raising awareness throughout the Southeast. Founded on June 25, 1995, the SBTF has grown nationwide to support those impacted by a brain tumor diagnosis.
For thirty years, the Southeastern Brain Tumor Foundation has been a beacon of hope for thousands of individuals and families impacted by brain tumors. What began as a grassroots effort by passionate volunteers has blossomed into a robust organization that has significantly contributed to patient care, advocacy, and scientific advancements.
“As we celebrate this remarkable milestone, we reflect on the incredible journey of the past three decades,” said Joy Basham, Director of Programs and Events. “From our humble beginnings, we have seen tremendous growth in our ability to provide critical resources, foster community, and support advancements in research breakthroughs. This anniversary is a testament to the dedication of our volunteers, the generosity of our donors, and the resilience of the patients and families we serve.”
Over the past three decades, the SBTF has achieved numerous milestones, including:
- Funding Cutting-Edge Research: Investing $3,040,000 in innovative research projects at leading institutions, contributing to a deeper understanding of brain tumors and the development of new treatments.
- Patient Support Programs: Establishing comprehensive resource programs such as post-secondary academic scholarships and care bags for those undergoing chemotherapy or radiation treatments to patients and their caregivers, helping to navigate the complexities of a brain tumor diagnosis. SBTF has provided over 1,000 “acts of kindness” to brain tumor patients and free weekly support groups for survivors, young adult survivors, those impacted by aphasia, caregivers and their families.
- Community Engagement & Awareness: Organizing impactful events, such as the Race for Research (celebrating 25 years) on September 20, 2025 at Atlantic Station that will bring together over 1,000 supporters and educational campaigns that have significantly raised public awareness about a brain tumor symptoms, diagnosis, and the urgent need for continued research.
- Scholarships: Since the program’s inception in 2019, the SBTF has awarded over $260,000 to more than 100 deserving students whose college funding was put in danger due to a brain tumor diagnosis, allowing them to continue their education.
Proudly, 85-cents of every dollar donated goes back to the mission.
Looking ahead, the Southeastern Brain Tumor Foundation remains steadfast in its mission. The organization is poised to continue expanding its reach, supporting more patients, and funding even more groundbreaking research that will ultimately lead to a cure.
The SBTF invites the community to join in celebrating this significant anniversary by engaging with its upcoming initiatives and continuing to support its vital work. More information may be found at sbtf.org
